Emerald cut diamonds appear larger than what the actual carat portrays due to its larger surface area. Hence, a one carat emerald cut diamond will have a surface area that is 5% greater than the surface area of a 1 carat round cut diamond. Moreover, due to the elongated look, they make the finger of the wearer appear more slender and longer. Though they are rare and constitutes only 3% of the diamonds in the world, they are less expensive and hence, far more affordable than the round brilliant or princess cut.
